Ockeridge Rural Retreats
UK England West Midlands Worcestershire Worcester
Ockeridge Rural Retreats is well named – a luxurious glamping and self-catering holiday property deep in rural Worcestershire, boasting a variety of glamping accommodation and a superb two-bedroom cabin on the same site. It's certainly the right place for a retreat, with a handful of resident horses and a hidden, countryside feel that is just what the doctor ordered. But there's nothing rustic about the accommodation – if you’re looking for modern luxuries, you’ve come to the right place. Set on the edge of a series of fenced paddocks, Ockeridge Rural Retreats comprises a self-catering cottage, a two-bed log cabin, Montana, the Shepherds Retreat shepherd's hut, and three further shepherds huts in a nine-acre space.
The cottage is idyllic, completely refurbished and self-contained, with two bedrooms, a cosy living room with log burner and a well-equipped kitchen – plus table football for rainy days and a private garden for warmer ones. Located in a separate part of the meadow, the the Montana lodge is a cosy log cabin that sleeps a family of four: spacious very comfortable, and not really glamping at all, with gas central heating, double glazing and a high-spec kitchen with a full-sized oven, fridge and small freezer. It has a breakfast bar and dining table, a comfy L-shaped sofa and an outside deck with a quirky Whirlpool bathtub that's perfect for a spot of night-time star-gazing, and two bedrooms – one featuring a king-size bed with luxury Egyptian cotton sheets and goose down duvet, the other a bunk-bedded room and bags of storage for the kids' bit and pieces. Both bedrooms have flatscreen TVs.
Among more conventional glamping options, the Shepherd’s Huts are – perhaps surprisingly – similarly luxurious, with underfloor heating, tiled en-suite bathrooms, king-sized beds and compact kitchens with an oven, fridge and sink and all the utensils you need. The Shepherds Retreat comfortable sleeps four – it has bunks in addition to a double bed – while the others each sleep two, in equally astonishing levels of comfort, with outside decks and wood burning stoves.
As for things to do, the English heritage property, Witely Court, two miles away, has beautiful grounds to explore, while walkers can hike the nearby Malvern Hills Rainy days are easily filled dipping in and out of shops in Worcester and marvelling at the city's cathedral, and when the sun breaks, a pint beside the River Severn is the perfect way to end the day.

National Trust-owned Greyfriars' House and Garden (01905 23571) is well worth a visit, as is the Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum (01905 25371) on rainy days.
