Luxury glamping in the heart of the Devon countryside

Situated in the heart of Devon’s Axe Valley, Lower Keats Glamping is the ultimate destination for luxury glamping in this part of Devon, close to the Dorset border and the fabled jurassic Coast. Their six canvas safari lodges, set in peaceful countryside adjacent to the river Axe, are a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and they are as luxurious as glamping gets, with en-suite toilets and showers with hot running water in both, three comfy double or twin bedrooms (each lodge easily accommodates six people) and a kitchen with wood burning stove to keep you snug and warm. What's more, you can wake up and have your morning cuppa as each lodge is fitted with a double burner gas hob.

The names of the lodges reflect the area – Cobb, Beer and Golden Cap, Deer, Stag and Pheasant – encouragement perhaps (if any was needed) to get out and explore what by any standards is a great location: Lyme Regis and the glorious Dorset coast is just a short drive away, as is the perhaps slightly lesser-known southeast coast of Devon, notably the resorts of Beer and Sidmouth; and there are loads of great walks you can do from the site, plus for the culturally inclined a fair number of National Trust properties too, including Tudor stunners like Barrington Court and Montacute House.

The site itself is great for kids, with a wildflower meadow and pigs and lambs to pet – plus chickens to collect eggs from in the morning. They are dog-friendly, and also an environmentally friendly place to stay, with locally made natural bathroom products available in the lodges, low-energy power sources, eco-friendly toilets and lots of recycled materials in the lodges and other buildings. They really have thought of everything, with an honesty shop selling local produce so you don't need to bring too much with you. It is, as they say, 'a little bit of paradise', and we're grateful that they decided to share it with the rest of us!

Each each safari tent sleeps up to 6 in one king bed, one double cabin bed and two singles (all in three separate rooms). All lodges have en suite walk-in showers. Hot water (instant and unlimited) is provided throughout bathroom & kitchen. The kitchen features a twin burner gas hob, Belfast sinks and a cool box. A wood burning stove with oven and BBQ/firepit can be found outside with complimentary firewood provided. Guests are welcome to interact with the farm animals including pigs, lambs, ducks and hens (whose eggs can be purchased in the onsite honesty shop).

Food & Drink

You can even pre-order a meal for your first night and have it waiting for you in the larder on your arrival. A five minute stroll up the lane you'll find the popular Tytherleigh Arms (01460 220214) a 16th century coaching inn which boasts an impressive seasonal menu (not to mention a fine selection of ales) featuring the best West Country produce such as Ilminster steak and Tremlett farm pork. Hugh Fearnley-Whitingstall's River Cottage Deli & Canteen (01297 631715) in Axminster serves everything from breakfast and healthy lunch options to a fantastic Sunday roast. River Cottage HQ also hosts regular dining events and cookery courses. If it feels like a fish night, Hix Oyster & Fish House (01297 446910) has you covered. The panoramic sea views are the perfect accompaniment to their sensational array of fresh locally-caught seafood.
