Exquisite wooden cabins for two in a stunning Warwickshire location

If you’ve ever fancied spending a night on the set of Little House on the Prairie, then visiting Tiny Wooden House might just be for you, a pair of tidy wooden cabins designed to to recreate the same sort of rustic rural idyll in what is by any standards a stunning Warwickshire location. Each abode offers all the comforts and proportions of a normal two-bedroom house, but with a truly tiny footprint. Step inside and you’ll find comfortable bedrooms, a kitchen finished with granite worktops, separate bathroom (with plumbed WC & shower), and central heating. There is also a South African-style verandah featuring an all-weather wood-fired barbecue (or braai) which doubles up as a toasty wood burner. Each home is set on the edge of a 100-acre arable field, facing unhindered views of the Warwickshire countryside, and as the evening temperatures dip, the warm, steaming water and crackling log fire of your wood-fired hot tub is a glorious way to see out the day. Finally, despite being only a few miles from Stratford-upon-Avon, the site is deep enough in Warwickshire’s rural bosom to hear the county’s agricultural heartbeat, yet it’s within easy reach of the M40 and A423, so escaping here from most major cities is a breeze.

Tinywood One features: double bedroom, a kitchen, a separate bathroom (with plumbed WC & shower), a central heating boiler with radiators and on-demand hot water, full 240v electrics and a wood-burning stove. The lounge and upper floor have 3 single beds, bedding is provided. The kitchen features a full-size fridge, gas cooker with hob, and dining table, seating 5. The property has a log-fired hot-tub, with logs provided at no extra charge. There is also a covered, all weather wood burner and gas barbecue/dining area.

The nearby village of Long Itchington lies on the banks of the river Itchen and is criss-crossed with numerous footpaths, canal towpaths and two disused railway lines. The railway lines come together to form a junction in a deep cutting that is spanned by an impressive iron bridge that time seems to have forgotten. Long Itchington boasts the largest village pond in Warwickshire and also features a fine 16th century Tudor House, where Queen Elizabeth I stayed in 1572 and again in 1575. The Old Manor House in the square dates back to the 15th century. Further afield and towering above the River Avon, Warwick Castle (01926 495421) is often proclaimed the 'greatest medieval castle in Britain'. Built in 1068 by William the Conqueror, the castle hosts jousting tournaments and daily trebuchet firings. Also in Warwick, Hill Close Gardens (01926 493339), are an interesting group of hedged gardens designed to be enjoyed by those who do not have gardens of their own. Other notable day trips include Stratford-upon-Avon, the birth place of Shakespeare; Royal Leamington Spa with its award-winning parks; and Coventry, home to the city's Transport Museum (02476 234270) and the ruins of Coventry Cathedral (02476 521200).

Food & Drink

Long Itchington has a fine selection of pubs that offer something for everyone, including good food and attractive scenery. The Green Man (01926 812208) is a cosy, real ale pub. They don’t serve food but a chip van visits on a Friday, which proves popular as they can be eaten in the pub with your drink.

The Harvester (01926 812698) serves amazing pizza eat in or take away,  The Two Boats (01926 812640) is a quaint canalised traditional pub offering great bar food. The Duck on the Pond (01926 815444) offers a fine dinning experience with beautiful restaurant and beer garden.

The Buck and Bell (01926 811177) has a good selection of beers. The White Hart (01926 612976) is worth a visit for the hilltop views alone. The Hilltop Shop and Café (01926 632978) is a fantastic butchers, selling top quality locally sourced fresh produce. Breakfast and lunch come highly recommended in the café. The Water Margin (01926 633233) is a nice Chinese take away, and The Long Itchington Diner (01926 819096) is great value if a fried breakfast takes your fancy.

Getting There

Due to the sites rural location sat-navs will bring you to Snowford Hill, but not to the door. Once on Snowford Hill find the sign ‘Grange Cottages’ at the foot of the hill on the Long Itchington side. Pull into this driveway and follow it in and to the left. Once you have passed through the barn conversions you will see the Tiny Wooden House ahead of you. Aidan lives onsite (at 4 Grange Cottages) and someone will meet you upon arrival.

Chiltern Railways services run at frequent intervals (mostly half-hourly) between London and Birmingham Snow Hill, with further trains to Stratford-upon-Avon. Four long-distance trains an hour (operated by CrossCountry) also serve Leamington throughout most of the day, two northbound and two southbound. Typically, these alternate between services from Manchester to Reading and Bournemouth by way of Southampton Central.
